Familiars

Post by Archmage » 04 Sep 2019, 12:45

Following recent comments made during lengthy discussions on these notices i would like to take a little time to remind the adventuring community of the following:
"The Law" wrote: Murder by Proxy
Any assault on a recognised familiar of the Guild of Mages will be tried as a crime of ‘Major Murder’. The social of the familiar is considered to be equivalent to its bonded Master.

Arch-mage,

How does an idiot (like me) know what a recognised familiar is, and not just some horrible bugger in a pocket that has been picked up by some random mage? What stops someone from just grabbing something and going "This is my familiar "Soul drinker" and he's like totes cool"

Do you have a list of familiars that you check against, do you check them and allow them on a case by case basis? Could we give them a badge or something so we know they are legitmate?

The full and intricate details of the process would be considered to be Guild secrets.
Safe to say that we have ways and means.

As general advice, if a demon is small enough to fit in a bag, particularly a bag on a demonologists person, then it probably isnt going to do you any harm and you should probably leave it alone.

Can I ask a supplementary question? Are familiars essential for a demonologist to do their job, or do they just make their job easier?

Archmage

May I ask how you would deal with complaints should they need to raised about familiars being rubbed in religious folks faces. Clearly there has to be a balance between rights and then disrespecting people of faith?

The law is the law and I totally support that. That said if your guild members are deliberately provoking people of faith could something be said to your members as this is bring your fine guilds name into potential disrepute? Being a big supporter of the guild system and the council I trust this comment on a potential scenario and theoretical discussion, time allowing being an important person, i would like to hear your thoughts.

Forgemaster,

They are not essential, but can indeed make the job easier, how easy would depend on the familiar, and its purpose.

When i was the witchfinder, following a clear and unambiguous warning, i would usually temporarily relieve the offender of their soulfire and then spend a good while writhing them into the ground.

Now that i am the Archmage however, i am able to delegate such matters, so i would advise you to send your concerns on to Witchfinder Kell and he will see to the problem in an appropriate manner.
