If it's not a matter of wanting the soul to go somewhere else, are you saying that it just happens sometimes? That the soul just goes astray?
High Mother

My understanding of the spell is that unless specified to go elsewhere then the soul goes to Kharach, they do not go astray, as the Archmage says Soulfire is impartial, a person can make a conscious choice to send a soul elsewhere; however it takes a very vile kind of person to do this.

Where else can you send a soul to?
And why the fuck would you want to send it anywhere else?

Emily
It's not a matter of 'wanting' to send a soul anywhere else, simply the nature of how the spell works. The method of transporting the soul is different. Due to the power and material costs involved Necromancers are likely to leave this up to Kharachians where possible, as the harvesting of souls is not what we do.

I am certain the school would be very, very upset should someone attempt to abuse our charged scrolls in such a way.
Master Rattle, sir
Are you saying that the necromantic spell will always send them to Kharach aswell?
Because the wording of Baront Lucius and Master Sidney seems to say that the necromantic spell can choose to send the soul to Kharach, or to somewhere else, like a soul hording dragon for example (I have no idea where else a soul could go) ?

If they can go elsewhere is it possible for anyone else to know where they've bin sent?

Where necromancers of the school of necromancy of Ithron cast this spell it will always be to send a soul either to Kharach or their own god respectivly, or just straight to Kharach. If no direction is given, Kharach is the default destination, souls cast directionlessly seem to be drawn to the halls of Kharach.

However, it is possible to attempt to direct the spell to other places in other planes, for example, Sharda or the Utterdark. I speculate that the more evil practitioners of the dark arts could use this spell or a variation to feed souls to extraplanar entities other than Kharach but I would not recommend anyone with a charged scroll attempt this in any way or for any reason. It will end badly for them.

As a footnote, this is is also why you always bumrush witches or demons casting rituals over dead or dying bodies with urgency.

I hope this information is helpful.

My understanding (from casting the ritual from a necromantic charged scroll) is that the caster may choose to send the soul elsewhere, but if no destination is provided, the default is that the soul is sent to Karach.
Wait wait wait?....... so you,re saying if there was someone i truly truly hated i could get me one of these scroll things, lay em to rest in their sleep and have thier soul wake up in the utterdark??

Cor that'd be a great if messed up way to get revenge on someone.

You'd have to kill them first. You can't send someone's soul on while they're still alive.

Gideon... just no. Don't ever do that. Souls must always be sent to their rest in the halls or with their god... even the ones that fell to the darkness. The utterdark is a grim place and nobody deserves to be there to wander...

Despite the fact the Black Choir saw fit to set up a base there... and my good friend went to join them... My prayers to Kharach that they and she are safe-ish there...

Its only a crime if you get caught. Brogar

And besides if your getting branded as a murderer you might as well add another brand to the collection.
