Bequifusian Pincer Traps

Post by Caliban » 21 Sep 2019, 21:44

* a very sloppily-written letter is tacked on the board*

Adventurers of Ithron

I would like to put out a general warning to anyone adventuring where the followers of Bequifus may be commonplace.

We had the fortune to find an insidious trap in the Southwestern regions of Norvic. A wooden box, cuboid, around a foot wide and high, and about a foot and a half deep. On one end was a pair of sharp, claw-like pincers, biting down on a poor villager's leg. Apparently they had been placing these horrid things all over the region to catch potential sacrifices for some ceremony.

The only way to release the villager was to reach inside an arm-sized hole on the other end of the box, to push a lever further in. The hole was lined with razor-sharp blades, however. Thankfully, we could release him and send the man on his way.

I'm putting up this notice to make everyone aware of these traps, and just how dangerous (and sadistic) they are. Be wary, and may the Seven guide you.

P.S.: Incidentally, I now need to source a Regeneration...

With the Primate o' Bequifis being in Medhamstede, this isn't surprisin' at all. Looks like dark God shenanigans are on the up again...

Thanks Mister Caliban for your information.

The trap was set up so a secondary switch on the lever itself had to be pushed down. So could possibly loop a length of string on a stick, and then push it in.

Did you know the likely.... outcome of placing your hand inside and pulling the lever before hand?

One of my earlier suspicions were that the edges of the hole were poisoned, and it would take careful movement to release it. However, I had soon realised when the lever had to be pushed that they were going to close.

That being said, I would either lose the arm, or this man would have been taken away by Heretics. I can only imagine what kind of harm they would have done to him.

We had already seen what these Heretics were doing to these poor villagers; we came by several on the road.
I don't think there was much else that could have been done... the mechanism looked very complicated and the trap itself was solid metal. Some of the party managed to destroy the trap, though they ended up breaking three weapons against it.

I thought you were very brave, Caliban! We'll get your arm back. Not the old one, I doubt that'll be of much use anymore.
