There are many ways to communicate something without actually saying it. A code was quickly developed and used to prevent vocalisation of the names of the fallen and allow them their rest. The message was not written word for word.

I am no fool. I learned the penalty of naming the fallen long ago, and it's a lesson which will not be forgotten. Thankfully, I was not in error, but it was still too damned close.

Mother Militant Bower,

Next time try pushing scrabble pieces with your nose. Will probably quicker and easier than developing a code.

Help me to understand something Mother Militant, in plan words, I'm terrible with codes.

When I was a lad, I was taught that Kharachians believed naming the dead drew their attention back here from their rest, and so it was unfair of us to deny them their earned reward in the afterlife.

If that's the case, then surely if everyone knew Bob the peasant was code named Big Chuckle, if a Kharachian says, lets raise a glass to Big Chuckle, who died today, they are still naming the dead, as everyone knows who they mean, and they are drawing the attention of Bob, also knows as Big Chuckle from the Halls of Kharach?

Similarly, if Bobs best mate was also called Bob, then you could use still alive Bobs name to reference still alive Bob, as dead Bob will know that's not him you're talking about.

Which bits have I got wrong, as there's clearly something wrong in my learning.

I'd have just spelled them out by saying one letter at a time. But I'm a simple soul.

Forgemaster, perhaps it's a case of Big Chuckle, to use your example, not being their true name.
Like, if you got a charged scroll of Longstorian power, you couldn't substitute your name or Longstors with another name, you'd have to speak your actual name.
Perhaps the same is true there.

Dzulija,

Thats still saying the name though isn't it? Not that my suggestion is much better, I mean how many people have scrabble pieces just laying around? how do you turn them over? How do you get them out of the box? what if its missing pieces? its all very problematic in the end.

You might have something there....

Hopefully a servant of Kharach can confirm.

I meself try not to speak names. Me dad was a Kharachian, me mam a Vleyborian (not quite sure how that worked, but ho hum).

I feel mesen drawn towards the Kharachian path, so I hope I'm right in me assumption.

I feel the petty arguments on how the names got onto paper are trivial and draw away from the lives lost.

People may wish to mourn their deaths or celebrate the fact they are now at peace and those emotions that are evoked from this letter and the news should be the focal point in honour of friends and family lost.

Mr Six was a good friend of mine, my best friend and I will remember him fondly and celebrate the life he had and the memories we shared. I will take great pleasure in singing his tales through bardic melodies and be at peace knowing he has been laid to rest and returned to the cycle alongside the memory doll i made him.

We should keep the true menaing of this notice at heart - if you wish to split hairs split them elsewhere so people can process the information respectfully.

Kind regards,

Oh not Mr Six! Is Kora okay? It must be very sad to lose best buddy so I say prayers for her today too

Do not worry, I am ok. I have had his friendship ring returned to me, that I am grateful for. I do not mourn death the way most people do, I get why you say it is 'sad' to lose a best friend. I view it more that I am so happy for the memories Mr Six and I shared, I have not lost anything but simply gained some of the best memories of my life, I will cherish those until me and Six meet again in the halls.

I know that he will be waiting for me, I bet the stars in the halls are beautiful and I cannot wait to lay beside him in long grass, beneath a beautiful skyline once again.

To honour him I will be collecting a bunch of peoples favourite tales with Mr Six, if you have any I would appreciate it if you shared them. I wish to write them all down and then create beautiful tales and songs based on these stories so that anyone who loved and lost Mr Six, that views death differently to me may find peace and feel that he lives on through the tales he left behind.

He is with the cycle, and our Lord Longstor,

He is happy, and he is at rest,
