Summerfest catering

Post by Treasurer » 27 Jun 2018, 14:03

Hi,

Just to give you some background to the new catering arrangements at Summerfest.

For most of the time the Cat in the Puddle has been running, we haven't been able to have a proper catering kitchen and Lois has had to make do with one of a number of stopgaps. Unfortunately, although Huntley Wood is still trying to get a kitchen on site they can't guarantee it for this year. After looking at the alternatives, we have concluded that the best option is to bring in an outside caterer who has their own cooking facilities.

Conspiracy Catering come recommended to us by Huntley Wood, and are confident that they can deliver a good service to us. As it's quite a change from the last few years we are still hashing out some of the details, but so far as players are concerned the position should be:

- The Cat in the Puddle will be operating in the bar building, serving drinks and cold food; there may be some hot food such as toasties available too.

- Conspiracy Catering will operate out of their own marquee nearby, serving hot breakfasts and dinners, and cold lunches. The selection will be different from the last few years, but the general idea is the same. They will have their own seating in the marquee, or of course you can take the food elsewhere.

- A Feed Me ticket will get you food and unlimited hot drinks from Conspiracy Catering. It does not get you anything from the bar. Extra slots will unfortunately have to go, but I think the meals will be pretty filling anyway.

- They will be cooking more meals than we have issued Feed Me tickets, so it will be possible to get one-off meals.

- If you miss a meal I will see about getting it carried forward for something else later, but I can't guarantee that they will be able to manage that. They don't have the flexibility of swapping stew for a cocktail, as we've been able to do in the past.

- The bar will be selling cakes, pies, chocolate, filled rolls, and all the drinks we've traditionally had. We may also have some limited hot snacks, but that is to be confirmed.

- I am very keen to make sure that if you come in at midnight having been out in the cold for hours, you can get something hot to eat and drink. I'm working on exactly how to do this.

I will keep you updated as we go, but if you have any questions in the meantime do let me know.

I have been given the following sample (do not take it as set in stone!) menu:

- Breakfast would be 7 items from bacon, sausage, veggy sausage, hash brown, potato cake, fried bread, fried egg, beans and tomato.

- Lunch would be a selection of wraps (burrito, fajita, falafel, chicken)

- A selection of evening meals such as teriyaki chicken with noodles on Friday, Saturday stew & roast dinner on Sunday evening (all served with a dessert)

How big a knock on effect will this have on slave slots?

I don't yet know what impact it will have on helper slots.

We will therefore be still running them as usual, but I hope and expect that there will be less to do in each one. That should mean that we can either let people go early, or let them froth about within call rather than having to be actively doing stuff.

Or same number of hours/slots and have more people available for encounters rather than vegetable chopping and dishwashing...

No such thing as a slave slot. They are helper slots.

Just because we don't like it doesn't mean it's wrong (or illegal).
